What Pigs Can Teach Us About Maximizing Muscle Growth with I.AM.AMINO®

AS SEEN ON

One of the things you hear about in the news and social media is how excess nitrogen from farms and ranches is bad for the environment (This is not a political discussion)

But have you wondered where those gasses are coming from?

It’s primarily in 2 forms, non-digested or wasted (urine, feces, etc) and added to plants as fertilizer.

Ignoring fertilizer for this discussion, this begs the question: of how can we reduce the nitrogen that is wasted by livestock?

Why aren’t they “utilizing” all of the protein they eat?

There are a number of reasons surrounding the digestibility and differentiation of livestock and feed but one big culprit is the limiting Amino Acids (AA)

This is the idea that certain AA’s can prevent or limit MPS (Muscle Protein Synthesis) if there isn’t enough of it in the bloodstream during the process.

For livestock feed, soybean, corn and wheat are the major ingredients.

However, Soybean is much more expensive than the other 2 and so limiting this “complete protein” with 2 other incomplete proteins is a valuable strategy for saving money.

Meanwhile both corn and wheat have Lysine as the first limiting AA.

Studies have shown that for pigs, adding a Free Form amount of Lysine, Methionine, Threonine, and tryptophan (all found in I.AM.AMINO®) to the corn and wheat feed allows farmers to lower the soy (complete protein) content without impacting the growth of the pig.

Further studies have shown that in doing so, caloric needs can also be lowered even while the animal is leaner and bigger (wow isn’t that what many of us are looking for?)!

What Can Humans Learn From Livestock?

Now this doesn’t mean a free for all.

  1. We aren’t pigs (but we have very similar traits biologically)
  2. Studies on livestock are absolutely not about long term health! They focus on bringing leaner and bigger animals to market with the least cost. (That means there may be more effective methods but they are more expensive)

So what does this mean for I.AM.AMINO® users?

How Does This Relate to I.AM.AMINO® Users?

Lately I have gotten a lot of questions about using I.AM.AMINO® to bulk. Frankly, I am a former fat kid with a lifelong aversion to being fat again, so precious little energy is spent thinking about bulking. But now I must! Lol

As I’ve pondered bulking and even clean bulking protocols, most are either not appropriate to non PED users or limited to low-carb lifestyles.
Insulin controlled bulking strategies are very powerful with I.AM.AMINO® and fasting but not everyone is interested in ketosis or fasting!

So how can those of us who use carbs as part of our diet truly clean bulk?

Pigs may show us the way!

So if we raise our carbs, lower our protein and simply supplement with I.AM.AMINO® that may meet our growth needs!

MPS takes a tremendous amount of energy (7.2 kcal per ATP molecule) but protein isn’t energy efficient because of digestibility, thermogenesis, and gluconeogenesis burning up much of the available energy.

Plus protein is simply hard to consume if you’re including a high > 1g/lb strategy!
Bruh, that’s a lot of chicken breasts when you get up to 300g or so which many do with some of the higher bulking recommendations. (I’ve seen as high as 3.3g/kg)

At 170lbs that would equal 255 g for me. But that’s also 1000 kcal that I may lose up to 300 calories of due to its inefficiency! A smart bulk for average lifters shouldn’t add more than 300 calories so I’m literally going backwards!

Replacing Protein Calories with Carbs

(Many times when I hear folks complain that they lose weight on high-calorie diets they are also eating huge amounts of whole protein)

So if I can hit my protein requirements while replacing those 300 calories with carbs, then the BULK is on and probably all muscle at that point!

More to come on the I.AM.AMINO® bulking with carbs strategy (I did a maintenance cal strategy for the last 2 weeks and literally every shirt is tight on me right now with no weight gain! But of course the additional carbs have me holding much more water)

As for clean bulking with ketosis, there are so many articles around on that topic. I assumed people have access to those strategies.

If not let me know and I’ll write something up!
